2023 Golden Globes Film Winners Predictions

Best Film Drama
Who Will Win: The Fabelmans
Who Might Win: Elvis
The Lowdown: The Internet is on an Elvis high after yesterday’s unexpected ASC nomination. I am ready to declare it the next Bohemian Rhapsody-like musical biopic contender that the Globes clearly loves, but I still think this is the ideal time to revitalize The Fabelmans’ struggling awards campaign.

Best Film Drama Actress
Who Will Win: Cate Blanchett, TAR
Who Might Win: Michelle Williams, The Fabelmans
The Lowdown: Michelle Williams probably regrets the category switch to lead about now.

Best Film Drama Actor
Who Will Win: Austin Butler, Elvis
Who Might Win: Brendan Fraser, The Whale
The Lowdown: The second easiest call of the night.

Best Film Comedy/Musical
Who Will Win: Everything Everywhere All at Once
Who Might Win: Banshees of Inisherin
The Lowdown: A much tighter race, but looking at the nomination list you have to feel the Golden Globes’ is incredibly passionate about The Banshees of Inisherin, and their tastes also usually align with BAFTA more than most. Although Everything Everywhere All at Once is lightyears more popular and a celebration of diversity that will send a good message.

Best Film Comedy/Musical Actress
Who Will Win: Michelle Yeoh, Everything Everywhere All at Once
Who Might Win: Margot Robbie, Babylon
The Lowdown: They loved Babylon, but this race seems pretty done.

Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor
Who Will Win: Colin Farrell, The Banshees of Inisherin
Who Might Win: Daniel Craig, Glass Onion
The Lowdown: The absolute easiest call of the night and will be Farrell’s second Golden Globe win after In Bruges.

Best Film Supp. Actress
Who Will Win: Jamie Lee Curtis, Everything Everywhere All at Once
Who Might Win: Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin
The Lowdown: An award that may start off the night might be the evening’s toughest to call, but I’m either going with Condon for multiple reasons. 1) This extremely dire category needs a frontrunner 2) Everyone seems passionate enough about her performance (Her recent NSFC win) 3) The Golden Globes clearly love this movie 4) She’s most likely to win the BAFTA, and once again, HFPA and BAFTA’s tastes ALIGN. Or it’s just going to be Curtis, given her favorable and overdue history with the HFPA. Although neither feels like a winning performance. A real toss-up.

Best Film Supp. Actor
Who Will Win: Ke Huy Quan, Everything Everywhere All at Once
Who Might Win: Brendan Gleeson, The Banshees of Inisherin
The Lowdown: I don’t want to live in a universe where Quan gets Mahershala Ali Moonlight’d.

Best Film Director
Who Will Win: Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans
Who Might Win: The Daniels, Everything Everywhere All At Once
The Lowdown: I don’t think the Golden Globes can resist getting the legendary Steven Spielberg on stage and giving a speech for his most personal movie ever, but whatever wins Best Drama is likely taking this category as well.

Best Film Screenplay
Who Will Win: The Banshees of Inisherin
Who Might Win: Everything Everywhere All at Once
The Lowdown: Everything Everywhere All at Once might win the Oscar, but Martin McDonagh is their new Aaron Sorkin/Quentin Tarantino screenplay golden boy, and he already outdid himself from his last win here.

Best Animated Feature
Who Will Win: Pinocchio
Who Might Win: Marcell the Shell with Shoes On
The Lowdown: Pinocchio’s fizzled some, but evidence lays the Globes adores it, and it’s the only animated contender that is also a musical.

Best Foreign Language Film
Who Will Win: All Quiet on the Western Front
Who Might Win: RRR
The Lowdown: A few weeks ago, you would’ve thought RRR had this locked up, but All Quiet on the Western Front has been on a steady rise that could lead to a Best Picture nomination.

Best Score
Who Will Win: Babylon
Who Might Win: Pinocchio
The Lowdown: Babylon is a bad movie with an incredible score. Desplat (who the HFPA loves) has a shot at stealing the category with his musical composition, but Globes seems totally on board the Babylon train.

Best Song
Who Will Win: Top Gun: Maverick Hold My Hand
Who Might Win: Lift Me Up, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
The Lowdown: There isn’t much competition, and there’s your Top Gun representation for the night!
